I’m bad at keeping up

This is the first post of the new year, having been absent for a while.  Not only was I slammed by the holiday activities, but I also had to pick up extra shifts at work.  Anyhoo,  I’ve also been sick.  I was so proud of myself for not catching any nasty viruses for a year, but the universe decided it was time.

Three days before Christmas I caught the flu, and even then I was able to muscle through the Christmas gatherings.  Instead of baking, I had the kids help me throw together some desserts into mason jars to give as gifts. The end results were not pretty, but hopefully yummy!

I spent all of the Christmas dinners on various sofas getting rest, sometimes with eyes closed.  I skipped anything remotely considered as “extra”, including blogging, because I just can’t do everything all of the time. I have yet to update my Aulani trip reports and the ten other unfinished drafts and ideas I’ve saved, but I’m slowly recovering with rest and help from the hubby and kids.

My teapot and I are best friends right now. I’m living off of herbal tea.

2017 was a challenging year, health-wise, but hopefully the new year will bring better things!  Since my illness is never going away, I’m not hoping for a miracle, just maybe better symptom control.  I’m being referred to a neurologist for my brain fog, migraines, hyperreflexia etc.  I’m being referred to a gastroenterologist for my inflammatory bowel symptoms.  I’m continuing my visits with my rheumatologist and ophthalmologist. For my part, I’m going to try to do more exercise to manage my pain.  It’s really difficult to be motivated since I don’t have much free time and I’m always exhausted, but I think it’s really time to make the change.

My first priority is always the kids, so I need to make sure I’m as close to 100 percent as possible to do what I need to do for them.

Happy New Year to you all!  I hope this year brings even more light and happiness to you than the last year!
